Speaking Partners


In partnership with AMIDEAST Rabat, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers an intensive summer Arabic language institute for U.S. university students. AMIDEAST Rabat is seeking Moroccan Speaking partners to assist students as Arabic tutors and conversation partners.
Job summary:
Speaking partners will provide Arabic speaking practice for students every afternoon, Monday through Thursday. Prior to the beginning of Ramadan, speaking partners will hold speaking practice session from 2:30-5:00pm. Speaking partners are also expected to play an active role in the CLS program, including language socialization activities. Speaking partner activities will be coordinated by the Academic Director.
Speaking partners are expected to work approximately 20 hours/week for the duration of the program.  This includes four hours on Monday-Thursday afternoons (1:15-5:15) and approximately four additional hours per week, to be determined by the Academic and/or Site Director. Flexibility is expected throughout the program to accommodate changes in the schedule. Speaking partners are expected to speak Arabic only at the school and during activities with the students.
Qualifications: 
  • Strong desire to improve the Arabic language skills of the CLS students
  • Native spoken and written proficiency in Arabic
  • Good level in English
  • Experience working with international students
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Patience, understanding, flexibility, and an unceasingly positive attitude
  • Outgoing personality
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet challenge with enthusiasm

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a speaking/tutor  partner for 20 hours a week during two months starting from June 10th, 2013
  • Tutor students on a regular basis
  • Be punctual or a few minutes early
  • Notify the student directly if you are unable to be present during your scheduled hours
  • Communicate any personal needs or concerns to the Academic Director in a timely and
appropriate fashion
  • Provide regular feedback to the Academic Director on progress with your student
